TALKING ABOUT YOUR WORK IS CREATIVE WORK
Roddy Bottum (of Faith No More fame) recently wrote “These Rooms,” which goes against all pragmatic guidance on what an email subject line or headline should be.
But this is art.
He’s promoting his current book tour (more art), and if anyone could get away with uploading the tour poster and writing, “hey, book tour is going great. Hope to see you out there,” well, it’d be Roddy. Instead he wrote about 1,800 before getting to the “point.”
“The rooms of punk rock, don’t get me started. Where we are as a youth, as a celebration, as a rebel in our lives at the pinnacle of what matters, politically, protesting, being together and the sheer volume of the music as it comes off the stage, the pits, the shine of those shows, the drunk dumbness of becoming who we. become and the strength of that.”
Hell, he could just post this photo with John Waters and call it a day, right?

Except he didn’t.
He made art instead.
Roddy wrote almost 2,000 words not just as a way promote his book tour, but as a gift. I was in high school in the 90s, so of course I was a Faith No More fan. He owes none of us this sacred offering, but we are blessed.
You say you want 1,000 true fans. Do you? Are you sure?
Roddy joined Faith No More in 1981, some 45 years ago, and he took the time to make this newsletter a creative work.
