MORE CHANCES BEFORE MORE CONTENT

From Joshua Heath Scott of JHS Pedals and Art House Grandview:
“I believe I have learned from everything I have made. I have obsessively adjusted my approaches and products. I have improved everything all the time. But it is still math, and the reality is that if you do not put things out there, you have fewer chances. Both are true. In the last twelve months I have released more than a pedal per month while making what I know is some of my best stuff, but I still cannot tell you which of them will be the ones.”
This doesn’t just pertain to guitar pedals, but for how we make our offerings, write our newsletters, book our events, pitch our work, and everything else.
Somehow it’s acceptable to post multiple times per day on social media for 5+ years, but the thought of sending 100 cold emails, or contacting people at radio stations and local newspapers is just too much effort.
“Leaving the distribution of your work to algorithmic platforms is a dead-end street. Posting isn’t enough; you have to reach out to your audience directly if you want to survive.”
You can not simply post and ghost. I’m not saying spend all your time being a part time marketing director, but discover fun, sustainable ways to promote your work, and give the things you make more than just one chance to be seen by your audience.
This is the focus of our REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT Escape Pod Zoom call tomorrow. Hope to you see you there.
